On the first day of our 3-day adventure from Marrakech to Merzouga, we start early in the morning, full of excitement. Our journey takes us through beautiful valleys and breathtaking mountain landscapes, with plenty of opportunities to stop along the way to capture the stunning views. We cross the majestic High Atlas Mountains, making our way to the iconic Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage site. After exploring this ancient treasure, we enjoy a delicious lunch before continuing on to Ouarzazate. There, we visit the famous Atlas Studios, known for filming blockbuster movies, and the Taourirt Kasbah, a historical site rich in culture. Next, we cross the lush Skoura Oasis and continue our journey toward the Dades Gorges. As we approach, the dramatic cliffs rise around us, offering a truly awe-inspiring view. We take time to explore the area on foot, walking along the trails and breathing in the fresh mountain air. As the sun begins to set, the sky turns into a canvas of vibrant colors, creating a magical backdrop. For the night, we stay in a cozy guesthouse, where we enjoy a hot, traditional meal and share stories about the day’s adventures.
On the second day, we wake up to the beauty of the sunrise over the Dades Gorges, enjoying a peaceful breakfast with a stunning view of the cliffs. Afterward, we hit the road again, heading toward Merzouga. Along the way, we pass through charming villages and scenic landscapes, each more beautiful than the last. As we get closer to the desert, the scenery starts to change—rolling hills of golden sand begin to appear on the horizon, signaling that we’re nearing the Sahara. Finally, we arrive in Merzouga, where we prepare for one of the most memorable parts of our journey: a camel ride into the desert. Sitting atop our camels, we head deeper into the dunes, feeling the soft sand beneath us and the warmth of the sun overhead. We stop to take in the mesmerizing sunset, as the sky transforms into a canvas of vibrant colors, with the desert stretching out endlessly before us. Later, we arrive at our desert camp, where we’ll spend the night under the stars. We’re treated to a delicious Berber dinner around a cozy campfire, complete with traditional music and plenty of laughter, as we share stories of our adventure so far.
On the final day of our 3-day adventure, we wake up early to catch the unforgettable sight of the sunrise over the golden dunes of the Sahara. It’s a moment you won’t forget, as the sky changes colors and the desert comes alive with the first light of day. After breakfast, we begin our journey back to Marrakech, filled with memories of the desert. Our first stop is in Rissani, where we visit the traditional market. Here, the vibrant atmosphere is full of local vendors selling spices, handicrafts, and fresh produce. It’s a great place to soak in the sights, sounds, and smells of Morocco’s culture and pick up a few souvenirs. We continue our drive through the beautiful Draa Valley, known for its lush palm groves and stunning landscapes. As we make our way back to Marrakech, we reflect on the incredible experiences we’ve had over the last three days—riding camels across the dunes, exploring ancient kasbahs, and immersing ourselves in the heart of Morocco. Finally, we arrive in Marrakech, marking the perfect end to an unforgettable adventure through the desert and beyond.
